We have come to a bittersweet place…the end of the summer series over Galatians 5:22-23.  Eleven weeks of diving deeper into the Bible, studying God’s Word, getting creative in new ways, and learning and growing in the Lord.

This week we are learning how to put everything together in a yummy fruit salad.  We are reading about having deep, strong roots in God.  We are reflecting over the past 11 weeks and celebrating all God has taught us!

So far this week I have just spent some time in my traveler’s notebook and not in my Bible (yet!).  It was an amazing time reflecting on all God has taught me over the past 11 weeks.  This week’s spread is colorful and reminds me of each fruit and topic that we studied.

I love using the short little phrases as inspiration in my traveler’s notebook or Bible journal.  This week I glued a few onto a pineapple tab door.  On the backside of the door, I wrote down different things I have learned through this experience.  It is so important to reflect and summarize and see all that God has done.

I went hiking with my family over the weekend, and I was struck by all the tall, strong trees.  Many of their roots were peeking up along the trail, and it made me think of this class.

“They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.  It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green.  It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”  Jeremiah 17:8

What have you learned from the study?  What was your favorite week?  What were your favorite images?  (I still love those watermelon flip flops!)  I would love to know in the comments below!

Thanks again for joining us for this FREE class.  Did you enjoy the class?  Check out the Creative Faith Etsy store here and give us some love.  I am working on translating some of our kits, so they will be available in Spanish muy pronto.  🙂

Self control.  The most challenging topic for me throughout this study on Galatians 5:22-23.  When I was recently in the Dominican Republic, one of my friends there told me she would love to write for Creative Faith.  I am excited to have Ruth Dominguez (@iamjasrey on Instagram) share her heart with us this week.  She also has a blog!  Check out her blog here and give her some love!

The most ironic thing happened when she sent me the first draft of the devotion.  I have been trying to not eat as many sweets, because I eat them when I am stressed or overwhelmed, instead of turning to God.  The day she sent the draft to me, I had made it until 8:00 pm when I got home from work without sweets.  But I had a rough day.  And I didn’t have the energy to make dinner.  And a big box of m&ms were sitting on my desk.  So I ate them instead of making a healthy dinner.  As I was chowing down, I opened Ruth’s devotion all about self control.  I felt so convicted.

This week I had so much fun painting with toilet paper and apples!  I love thinking outside of the box when it comes to new ideas in Bible journaling.  They say the best ideas come to us when we are in the bathroom, and I LOVE how it turned out.  It reminds me of confetti, which is perfect for celebrating when we conquer temptation and show self control.

I painted 1 Corinthians 10:13 in my Bible in both my English and Spanish Bible this week.  I used the apple piece to create a yellow border on the Bible page.  The sunglasses came from inspiration from a sad moment this week.  My favorite pair of sunglasses broke, so I have been using these new blue rimmed aviator sunglasses.  I hoped that if I used them in my Bible, they might become my new favorite sunglasses.

Plus, I love the different ways we can use glasses in journaling.  On this page, I used them to represent how we need to keep our eyes open to the exits God gives us when we are being tempted.  We need self control to help us say no to the things God knows are bad for us.

Next week is our last week of the Produce in Me class.  What has been your favorite week so far?  What has God been teaching you through this class?  Let us know in the comments below!

I am very excited because today we have a special guest writer for Produce in Me.  Angeline at Dots and Dust is the sweetest, and I got the privilege of collaborating with her last March.  (Check out our first collaboration here!)  She wrote the devotion, I translated it into Spanish, and I created the images to use this week.  Head to her blog below, where you can download the Spanish devotion translation.

The very first week of Produce in Me, I created a list of “easier” and “harder” topics found in Galatians 5:22-23.  I had originally put gentleness under “easier.”  As I began to read Angeline’s devotion, I realized this is a character trait that the Holy Spirit has a whole lot more to teach me about.

In my traveler’s notebook, I created the red background using a Gelato marker on top of vellum.  I smeared it using a baby wipe to create an ombre affect.

I love how Angeline talked about it taking a great deal of strength to show gentleness in our daily lives.  The juxtaposition really stuck out to me, so I used it as my prayer on the back of the questions for this week.  I also love the bear to remind us not to be an angry bear, lacking gentleness in our lives.

I went to Titus 3 this week for my Bible journaling page, using some stickers and the ombre “mansedumbre” word to create another simple prayer.  The background was created using the watercolor colored pencils.

Here are some other Bible verses about gentleness that you could meditate over and journal this week:

  • Matthew 5:5
  • Zephaniah 3:12
  • Philippians 4:5
  • 1 Peter 3:15
  • 1 Peter 3:3-4

Next week we have another exciting collaboration with a new Creative Faith author.  I am excited to share with you a little about this wonderful friend and what she has to say about self-control.

What a challenging week.  I was studying faith in the Bible and God was testing my faith in real life.  Check out the YouTube video below to hear more about what I learned during week 8 of the Produce in Me class.

This week I have a special challenge for you all.  It’s the black pen challenge!  A few months ago God put this on my heart, but I have been hesitant to do it because I love being creative and using fun materials in my Bible and traveler’s notebook.  This week I was stressing about not having a special new technique to share with you all, and it made me pause and think.  God can give us creativity using just a black pen.  We do not need to go out and buy new supplies or use crazy things in Bible journaling.  All we need is God’s Word and a pen.

This week’s devotion has some fun images with a lot of symbolism.  The devotion mentions two Bible verses that talk about having faith the size of a mustard seed.  Mustard seeds are very tiny, so many of the images this week have little circles on them to represent the mustard seed.  I used the  black pen to make a variety of patterns around the border of the page.  The little dots represent mustard seeds, and the partial triangles represent mountains.

The fruit for this week is an orange.  Oranges have little seeds, just about the size of a mustard seed.  In the devotion, I also mention Luke 17, which talks about being able to move a tree with your faith.  I kept thinking about an orange tree with deep roots, jumping up and moving because of our faith.

Entonces el Señor dijo: Si tuvierais fe como un grano de mostaza, podríais decir a este sicómoro: Desarráigate, y plántate en el mar; y os obedecería. Lucas 17:6

Another image that came to my mind comes from Psalm 57 which I illustrated below: clouds.

This week not one but TWO people sent me the following message in Spanish from Aviva Nuestros Corazones.  It is called, La fe para dar un paso.  Listen to it here.  I loved the podcast.  It was all about how the Israelite’s did not have faith when they reached the promise land.  God told them to go and enter, but they wanted to send spies to check out the land first.  Then, when only Joshua and Caleb said they could take it, the Israelite’s ran the other way.  They were too full of questions and fear and doubt to trust God and walk in without seeing and knowing the details.

The podcast also mentions Noah and how he had NEVER seen rain before, but God asked him to build a boat for a huge storm.  I never realized that Noah had never seen rain.  He had great confidence in his Savior.

It was really neat and challenging to see God teach me so much about faith this week.

Are you going to take the black pen challenge?  Let us know in the comments below your thoughts on the challenge, and make sure to tag us in your pages on Instagram!  @creativefaithco

Welcome back to the Produce in Me FREE summer class!  I just spent the last week in the Dominican Republic, and this devotion and images were inspired by the trip.  One of my favorite things to drink in the DR are the fresh juices.  Mango, chinola, cherry, strawberry, and lime juice.

I had written the week seven devotion while we were in the Dominican Republic, but on the plane ride home, a new idea hit me, which is the devotion content you see today.  It is funny how we have our own plans, but God is the one who determines our steps.  He directs our paths.  It is a daily adventure with Him.

Galatians 6:9 impacted me this week.  God used this verse to bring me encouragement when I was on the mission trip, and He continued to use this verse to touch my heart as I created and journaled for Produce in Me.  This Bible verse became my prayer, asking God for encouragement to keep doing good things for Him.

One new thing I tried this week was cutting up the verse card and using the tree image with my tab punch.  I used two tabs from the verse card in my traveler’s notebook and my Bible this week.

I used the Matthew 7 verse card as the focal point of my traveler’s notebook entry.  I pulled out some old photo corners I have been keeping for years to create an area for some secret journaling, where I glued the jar of juice image to remind me to be full of God’s goodness.

As you meditate on week seven of the Produce in Me class, think about the question Jesus asks in Luke 19:17.  Could God call you a good and faithful servant?  How are you doing at being full of God’s goodness?  I pray God would encourage you to keep doing good things for Him and His kingdom.
