Produce in Me: Week 6

We are halfway through our special summer FREE online class, Produce in Me.  I still cannot believe all God has been teaching me over the past six weeks.  What has He been teaching you through this class?  Let me know in the comments below.

Produce in Me was inspired by some pineapple duct tape my mom got me last summer, so I have been most excited for this week in the study.  I love pineapples, and they represent kindness, hospitality, and help us to remember to be sweet.

I camped out in Luke 10 this week, reading, studying and thinking about the story of the Good Samaritan.  When I first read this story, I am appalled that two people walk by the hurting man without taking notice or stopping, but then I realize how often I do that, too.  I get so focused on my schedule and getting from point A to point B as fast as possible, I miss opportunities to show kindness to those in front of me.

Jesus’ command in verse 37 is very convicting to me:  “Go and do likewise.”

How cute is the bee in week 6 of this class?!  I want to name the bee.  If you have a suggestion, write it in the comments below.  The person who suggests the name I choose will get something special in the mail from me!

In my traveler’s notebook this week, I pulled out my Gelatos to create the background.  Lately, I have been playing with watercolors, but Gelatos are still some of my favorite materials to use.  Originally, I had printed the devotion and cut outs on normal paper, but then I realized how much I wanted to see the background and reprinted it on vellum paper.

In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he was attacked by robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead.  A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side.  So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.  But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him.  He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him.  The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’

“Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?”

The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.”

Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”

Luke 10:30-37

This week I want to do some more journaling about kindness.  I did not get to journal much about Isaiah 63:7 in English, so I am going to create a tip in so I have more room.  We need to share kindness with others because God is so very kind to us.

I would also suggest you check out what I created in my Spanish journaling Bible.  It is one of my favorite pages I have ever journaled.  I write the blog posts in English, so check it out here.

The Produce in Me class is taking a two week break because I am taking a group of high schoolers on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic.  Please be praying for us when we are there.  Now would be a great time to catch up on past weeks and invite a friend to join.  Week 7 of the class will continue on Friday, July 28th!
