Pressed Flowers in Bible Journaling

It is my constant prayer that God will place new and creative ideas in my head to show and teach you how to stretch your mind and try new things in Bible and prayer journaling.  The other day I thought about when I was little and would press flowers in the phone book to use in card making and altered books.  (I have a whole blog that I don’t use anymore with altered book pages I created way back in 2011.  Check it out here.)  I thought it would make a fun Bible journaling page using pressed flowers.

I thought about Matthew 6 where Jesus talks about the wildflowers and how God takes care of them.  They aren’t even human, but God provides for their needs.  He loves us SO much more.

Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch? All this time and money wasted on fashion—do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

“If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.”  Matthew 6:27-33

I first experimented with using gesso to hold them in my journal.  This journal is full of small quotes, verses, and prayers.  It is the perfect place to experiment and try new things before going into my Bible.

Then, I flipped to Matthew 6 in both my English and Spanish Bible to create these beautiful pages.

Go pick some flowers, grab a giant book to put them in, and wait a few weeks for the flowers to dry.  God teaches us a lot in the waiting time, too.  Then, open your Bible and journal some verses using flowers as inspiration.  Do you need to stop worrying like me?  Head to Matthew 6.  Here are some other flower related Bible verses:

“The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”  Isaiah 40:8

Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves is heard in our land.”  Song of Songs 2:12

“Make a lampstand of pure gold. Hammer out its base and shaft, and make its flowerlike cups, buds and blossoms of one piece with them.”  Exodus 25:31

I think in the fall I will try pressing and drying orange and red leaves from the trees.

Let me know in the comments below if you are going to try this technique.  Praying that each and every one of you would hand your worries over to the Lord.
